The hardest part about booking a trip… is booking a trip! Every time we talk to friends and family who are ready to plan a vacation, the first thing they say is, “I don’t know where to start!” Once upon a time, we were those people…until we found our go to apps that made booking a breeze.
There are tons of apps and websites out there that you can look to for assistance. But many we’ve found were too complicated, too expensive, or just completely helpless. Vacations are supposed to be a time of stress relief, but sometimes planning one can be nothing but stress. Here is a list of apps that you NEED to make booking a vacation easy like Sunday morning!
1. Momondo
$30 roundtrip to Ft. Lauderdale! $40 roundtrip to Chicago! Sound fake? We thought the same thing… until we discovered Momondo. We all know that the most expensive part of traveling is usually the flight. These deals, alone, are reasons you need to have this app.
Momondo has remained one of our favorite apps for flights, because of the consistently CHEAP deals. The app allows you to search across hundreds of airlines and booking sites to find THE best flight prices available. Unlike other flight apps, Momondo only shows you reputable airlines and travel agencies to book with. So no sketchy affiliate websites you’ve never even heard of. Another plus is that there are no hidden fees. What you see is what you get, and the prices don’t increase based on your searches. Trust us, when you see those prices, it’ll be love at first flight!
2. Currency Converter
No cheating! How much does 3,450 pesos equal in US dollars? You don’t know do you? Trust us, the average person does not. This is probably the LAST thing we want to try to calculate on our own. That is why My Currency Converter is an app that you need to have if you will be visiting a place with a different currency than your own. This app will compare and show you the current exchange rates all around the world. That dinner bill will stop looking like Morse Code, and start looking a bit more familiar in no time!
3. Airbnb
When it comes to booking our vacations, choosing where we stay is one of the most important decisions to make. You NEED to have the Airbnb app if you are looking for a unique accommodation and experience. Hotels are cool and all but, with Airbnb, you can book an entire house, villa, condo, etc. From a rice-field tree house in Bali, to a log cabin in the Smokey Mountains, Airbnb has accommodation for all types of traveler. It is perfect for privacy, space, and just having a home away from home!
4. Tripadvisor
For all things travel, Tripadvisor is like your one stop shop. You can literally find all of your vacation needs with just this one app. The simplicity of Tripadvisor makes it an app you need to download for booking your vacations. We mainly use it to find things to do where we are going, or great restaurant recommendations, but Tripadvisor can be used to find hotels, rental cars, and more! The biggest reason we love Tripadvisor is because of the reviews. Real people share their real experiences of places and tours to give you a better idea of what to expect.
5. Iconosquare
In the world of social media influencers, in order to really be seen, the Instagram algorithms require consistent posting. This is something we used to CONSISTENTLY forget to do. That is, until we downloaded Iconosquare. This app is definitely a must have for all of you aspiring influencers in need of a little organization. For $29 a month, you can schedule your posts to automatically run as often as you’d like, and Iconosquare will monitor your growth and performance simultaneously. You’ll be able to enjoy your vacation in it’s entirety without having to worry about pleasing the Instagram lords.
6. All Trails
If you travel for the love of nature and all things outdoors, you definitely need the All Trails app. We fell in love with this app when we took our roadtrip to Sedona, Arizona. Because we were traveling at the start of the pandemic, we weren’t too sure about national parks and trails being open in the area. All Trails made exploring super easy. The app shares details such as whether trails are open, the length, location, difficulty, and more!
7. We Work To Travel
This one isn’t an app YET, but it is definitely a website we feel is especially necessary for black travelers. We Work To Travel is basically a black Tripadvisor. This website allows black travelers to leave, and read reviews on countries they have visited/or are planning to visit, in order to see the experiences other black travelers have had.
